The Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera (1972) is arguably the most ingenious piece of consumer technology ever created. It wasn’t just a camera; it was a statement of art and engineering that Edwin Land, Polaroid’s founder, famously pulled out of his suit coat pocket during its debut. This sonar autofocus system greatly helped the user's ability to focus the camera, especially in dark environments, and could be turned off if manual focus was needed. The Sonar OneStep models were the first autofocus SLRs available to consumers. Refurbished, new laser cut leather applied. Fully working, film tested. Please check the images, as they are also part of the description. It remains the only folding SLR (Single Lens Reflex) instant camera ever made. The SX-70 is a masterpiece of industrial design, featuring a chrome-plated body and genuine light-brown Porvair (leather-like) trim. The Fold: It collapses into a flat, sleek slab. When you pull up on the viewfinder, it snaps into a triangular shape, unfolding a complex system of mirrors and a rubber bellows. True SLR: Unlike almost every other instant camera, when you look through the viewfinder, you are looking directly through the lens. This allows for precise focusing and framing, which is crucial for macro shots. While later Polaroids (like the 600 series) often used plastic lenses, the original SX-70 features a high-quality 116mm f/8 glass lens.
